Youth concert kicks off library’s Soothin’ Summer Sounds series

The 2018 summer season at Mathews Memorial Library promises to be very musical, with a youth concert kicking off the season, followed by four programs in the traditional Soothin’ Summer Sounds series.

Library director Bette Dillehay said the shows will feature a variety of musical styles and “a somewhat international flavor.”

Young music lovers will “Meet the Winds” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, in a concert by a woodwind quartet from the Virginia Symphony. The symphony’s education director suggested that the concert is appropriate for ages 8 to 14. The program is made possible by a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.

The regular season will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 7 with a concert by the Virginia Symphony’s Ambrosia Quartet. The remaining concerts are also at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
