Youth art programs offered at Arts on Main

Arts on Main in Gloucester is offering a number of opportunities for budding artists of all ages to express themselves in classes next week.

After-school art classes for elementary students and teenagers are among those opportunities. On Monday, Sept. 26, instructor Ann Atkinson will teach an elementary art class from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for students ages 6-12. The class will study the works of illustrator N.C. Wyeth and his son Andrew and their use of perspective, then students will create their own perspective painting with watercolors.

On Thursday, Sept. 29, Atkinson will teach a class for ages 13-18 on the works of Pablo Picasso. The focus will be on Picasso’s Blue and Rose periods, with students using monochromatic palettes to create works that imitate the artist’s moods. The time is 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Each class is $25, which includes all materials.
