‘Young Guns’ Dominate Croquet Nationals

Matthew Essick of Florida, won the 2021 Golf Croquet Singles National Championship at the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club in Hartfield on Sunday. The 22-year-old Essick defeated the 14-year-old Blake Fields of California, in finals winning two games out of three.

“It was a great, well-contested match,” said Essick. “Two young guys, just getting started. Today was a display of top-level croquet.”

Fields won the championship in the doubles tournament with his partner Mohammad Kamal. The doubles runners-up were Bo Prillaman and Stephen Jackson of Richmond.
