Yorktown Market Days will honor the dedicated local farmers who bring home-grown products to the community with a special celebration of National Farmers’ Market Week on Saturday, Aug. 8. A full schedule of activities is planned for the event, which coincides with the nationally recognized week, designed to acknowledge the vital role farmers’ markets play in the nation’s food system. From 8 a.m. to noon, more than 50 local vendors will set up their booths along the York River at Riverwalk Landing. Families can participate in the “Guess that Produce” game and pick up free “I Love Farmers’ Markets” temporary tattoos and coloring sheets for the children. The Virginia Chefs Association will host a pulled pork barbecue cooking demonstration, and the York-town Flower Shoppe will show visitors how to make a summer floral arrangement.
