The York County Public Library will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a birthday party from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Yorktown branch. On Sept. 16, 1976, the York County Board of Supervisors established a library board. The five-member citizen board was charged with the administration of the publicly funded York County Public Library. This was an important step for the library to be state-certified. The Yorktown library is located at 8500 George Washington Memorial Highway. People are invited to stop by for cupcakes, a photo booth, community art project, and a special library exhibit. This event is free for all ages and no registration is required. The Friends of the York County Public Library is also holding a Chapter 50 Gala event from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Yorktown Freight Shed, 331 Water Street.
