Yorktown hosts Maritime Festival, Harvest Market

Yorktown Market Days has a couple special events coming up this month at Riverwalk Landing.

The Maritime Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday.

Children can join buccaneers for a live sea shanties sing-along, make crafts for their “mateys” or get their face painted. Visitors can also observe blacksmith and colonial reenactments throughout the day; sample some of the best seafood in the area, including oysters, lobster rolls and shrimp; or shop for nautical-inspired art and jewelry.

A History Fair will be held inside the Freight Shed, where visitors can hear the untold stories of Yorktown. Among those in the Freight Shed will be Larry Chowning, author of 11 boat-related books, including “Deadrise and Cross-Planked.”

The Fifes and Drums of Yorktown will perform at 10; at noon, there will be a reenactment of the Yorktown Tea Party on the waterfront. The Riverwalk Landing Piers will also host workboat displays and tours.
