York Village Shopping Center celebrates 40th anniversary

York Village Shopping Center, located on Route 17 near the railroad tracks in York County, is celebrating its 40th year in business.

C. Lear Ponton of Williamsburg owns the center. His daughter, Ann Beale of Poquoson, now manages it and owns one of its businesses, Best of Everything. The center includes a total of 10 shops offering antiques, gifts and other products, plus hair care and insurance.

Beale said that the three-year-long Route 17 improvement project has hindered business at the center, where she has operated her store for five years. Best of Everything sells furniture, Polish pottery, shabby chic items, antiques and many other mostly pre-owned items.

There’s a lot of variety in the center and the shops often refer potential customers to one another, Beale said. Some of the other businesses at the center include:

—Cozy Cottage, owned by Cheryl Slavnik of Gloucester, which is an antique dealers mini mall;

—L&H Woodcraft, furniture repair and refinish...
