YMCA moving ahead with plans for new facility

Chesapeake Bank has donated $50,000 toward the creation of a new home for the Mathews Family YMCA, according to branch director Sheila Pillath.

“Chesapeake Bank is proud to support the work of the YMCA in our communities,” bank president/CEO Jeff Szyperski said. “We are excited to see the YMCA expanding in our Mathews market to more fully serve the

community’s needs.” This gift brings the Y’s capital campaign total to more than $620,000 in lead gifts toward a goal of $2.3 million, Pillath said.

The Y is focused now on raising the $1.6 million balance “with renewed energy, strategy and expanded leadership,” Pillath said. Once 70 percent of the goal is secured, architectural plans can be completed with an eye toward breaking ground.
