YMCA, Boys and Girls Club address child care need

The Mathews Family YMCA has partnered with the Mathews Boys and Girls Club during the pandemic to address the need of child care for working families. Together, the two organizations have created a safe, structured, and state-licensed learning environment for children, a release stated.

“Neither of our organizations wanted parents to choose to work and leave their children up to their own devices or risk losing their jobs and have no way to support for their family’s needs,” said Buzz Lambert, District Executive Director of the Mathews Family YMCA.

The Boys and Girls Club facility required extensive renovations to secure state licensing. The initial funding to complete the renovations was provided through the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES). The child care services were offered in time for the 2020 school year and have been offered since.
