WWII items sought for museum display

The Mathews Maritime Foundation Museum is seeking additional items for its World War II exhibit that will open at the museum on May 27. The exhibit will include photographs, documents and items from any source relating to World War II.

MMF spokesperson Nancy Lindgren asks those who are willing to donate or lend material to include any information that they may have about the item.

“Sometimes, people feel war-related items are not important to save,” Lindgren said. “But, after 70 years have passed, they serve as reminders of the times when sacrifices were made by everyone, particularly those directly in harm’s way.”

She said she hopes the exhibit will spark conversations within families in order to pass along information from those who served during that time, and to label photographs with names, dates and circumstances, if known.

According to Lindgren, the museum has a security system, but is not temperature or humidity-controlled.
