Wreath-laying ceremonies

Among commemorations on Memorial Day weekend in Mathews, members of the Capt. Sally Tompkins United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Cricket Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution participated in a pair of wreath-laying ceremonies. The women of the DAR placed memorial wreaths at the Revolutionary War Monument on the Mathews Court Green (above photo), as well as the war memorial monument at Liberty Square. They are, from left, secretary Lynda Lancaster-Loyd, treasurer Miriam Kleintop, regent Colanne Bunting, committee chairman Patricia Reed and historian Patty Hertzler. At right, the UDC members placed their wreath at the monument commemorating the sailors and soldiers who lost their lives in the Civil War. They are, from left, Martha Frame, Shelby Kellar, Melanie Miles, Diana Swenson, Marilyn Iglesias, Gwen Wood and Becky Morgan.
