Work to be done on Coleman Bridge Sunday

Two complete traffic stops of up to 30 minutes each will be required Sunday morning at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge for northbound travelers. Virginia Department of Transportation spokesperson Jennifer Gwaltney said the stops will be held in conjunction with single-lane northbound closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day, and that southbound traffic will not be affected.

The single-lane closures are necessary, Gwaltney said, to allow crews to perform electrical and mechanical work to the bridge. The span will remain fully operational throughout the work, she said, but the traffic stops—which will occur between 9 a.m. and noon—will allow crews to reposition equipment. Maritime traffic will also be impacted by the bridge work that day.
