Work proceeds at Buck Rowe’s store

Another Boston Butt fundraiser was underway Friday afternoon at Buck Rowe’s store at Bena as the Guinea Heritage Association continued to raise money for their restoration and preservation of the historic site.

Dr. Sharon Zuber, GHA secretary, discussed the organization’s accomplishments thus far as well as outlining their collective plan for the next year.

2017 saw the installation of a heating and cooling system, the construction of a bathroom, and the painting of the interior. This painting was done with an eye for historical accuracy, with original paint chips being used to ensure an exact color match.

Zuber also described the first “Christmas at Buck’s” event as a success, citing an “outpouring of community interest.”

Regarding future plans for the building, Zuber and GHA treasurer Rupert W. Thomas Jr. identified exterior projects as the next phase of work.
