Work begins on Put-In Creek dock/kayak launch

Construction began last week on a dock and kayak launch on Put-In Creek at Mathews Court House.

Bruce Howard Contracting began site work last Wednesday, and as of Tuesday workers had demolished two concrete pads that previously supported structures at the former sewage treatment plant, placed mats on the wetlands, and installed timber pilings.

Project manager Bruce Tillar said that the company is working off an Army Corps of Engineers permit for temporary impact to wetlands, and that wetlands at the site will not be destroyed.

According to a construction schedule provided by Mathews Planning and Zoning Director John Shaw, the framing of stringers and joists should begin by the end of this week and be completed by Aug. 27. Decking and the launch system are scheduled to be installed in time for Market Days in September.
