Woodwork featured at Mathews Country Galleria

Mathews Country Galleria, an art gallery located on Brickbat Road in Mathews, has some new features for its 2017 season, which began last week.

Richard Haynes of Gloucester, who owns the business with his wife Dara, said he has opened a branch of his North River Woodworks inside the Galleria, where he displays for sale some of the wooden cabinets, chairs and drinking cups he has crafted or refinished.

Haynes also has set up a small shop to the rear of the gallery, where he can work on projects while he mans the store. His main workshop is at James Store.

Another change is that besides the frames Dara purchases from other sources for her paintings, Haynes now crafts some wooden frames for her and others to use. Some frames are made with 100-year-old barn wood.

Dara sells some of her paintings at the gallery, Haynes said, as well as some commission pieces. Also, the shop sells jewelry, crafts and gift items. “I enjoy the creating,” Haynes said of building or refinishing w...
