Woodville School gets tax-exempt status

The Gloucester Board of Supervisors voted by a 4-2 margin Tuesday night to grant a tax exemption for the Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation for the historic school, which is located on Route 17 at Ordinary.
The old school house was purchased by the foundation in 2019 from the Economic Development Authority, and has been under renovations ever since.
According to the foundation’s website, the Woodville Rosenwald school was built in 1923 after T.C. Walker approached Julius Rosenwald of Sears Roebuck and Co. in 1919 for funding. During the meeting in the T.C. Walker Education Center, County Administrator Brent Fedors said that the current assessed value of the property is $207,060, with $1,439.07 paid in property taxes annually.
