Winning Market Days poster design unveiled

 

Mathews Market Days is just three weeks away, and organizers got ready for the 41st annual celebration last weekend with the unveiling of the winning poster design.

Mary Herz, a New Jersey resident with local ties, was named as the winning artist for the festival’s official poster. During a reception Sunday afternoon attended by about 40 people at the Bay School Community Arts Center on Main Street, Mathews, poster contest chairman Suzi Maloney and festival chairman Dee Russell unveiled the winning artwork.

Copies of the poster were sold Sunday and will be for sale during Market Days, which will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12 on and around the Mathews court green.

Maloney and Russell said Herz and the other seven artists who entered the competition were asked to illustrate the theme “Sunrises and Sunsets in Mathews.” Herz’s winning watercolor was titled “Crabbing at Sunrise.”
