Winners named in RAL juried shows

Winners in the Rappahannock Art League’s two March shows, “Absolutely Anything” and “My Favorite Things,” were announced by judge Doug Mock during First Friday on March 1.

The first-place winner among the 61 entries in the “Absolutely Anything” exhibit was “Collage,” a mixed media painting by Mike Stevens, chosen for the artist’s use of line, shape, color, and texture. “Light Riddle,” an acrylic on paper painting by Richard Stodart, took second place, and “Protea,” an oil painting by Juli Schuszler, came in third.

Honorable mentions were awarded to “Floral Ribbons” by Gayle Merrill, “Marsh Mallows” by Maria Whitehead, “French Flies” by Karyn Gallion, “Kumquat Trio” by Sarah Marshall Elliott, “Brother” by Carol Vaughn, and “The World Keeps on Turning” by Ron Taylor.

In the “My Favorite Things” exhibit, first place was awarded to Lara Brady’s acrylic and oil painting “Bokeh Bouquet” because of its “beautiful use of edges, both soft and hard.” Patricia Curlin took second place f...
