WINFRED ‘WIN’ MORRIS HUDGINS

Winfred “Win” Morris Hudgins, 91, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Born on June 26, 1934, he was the son of the late John and Nettie Hogge Hudgins. Winfred carried the warmth of his upbringing in Maryus, Virginia, with cherished memories of his grandparents and childhood friends. Known as the “Speeder” in his younger days, he once outran a state trooper, the trooper knew who he was and went to his father and gave him a tongue lashing. A graduate of Achilles High School, Winfred found great joy in mastering the saxophone and violin. He began his career at the James River Ferry, operated by the Virginia Department of Transportation, before transferring to the George P. Coleman Bridge. In 1953, Winfred married Marie Agnor, the love of his life. After raising their family, they turned their shared love of nature into a successful nursery and florist. Together, they built a thriving business, cultivating beauty for their community. Hudgins Nursery & Garden Center remains a lasting testament to their hard work and dedication.

Winfred’s legacy of love continues through his children: Dana Black (Don), Mary Raddin, and Michael Hudgins (Becky). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Erin Black Dickerson (Matthew), Lily Black, and Zachary Phillips. His heart and home were further enriched by his blended family, Danielle, Nathan, and Matt; four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. An only child, “Win” hit the jackpot marrying into Marie’s chaotic, loving family of 12 siblings. He was dubbed as “odd man out.” He cherished his “outlaws,” holding a special place in his heart for their lifelong love, support, and teasing. He is survived by his three remaining partners-in-crime, Ann A. Jones, Sandra A. Yoemans, and Michael L. Agnor.

Winfred has reunited with those who went before him: his beloved wife of 63 years, Marie A. Hudgins; his son, David Hudgins (and wife Delia); his son-in-law, Bruce Raddin, and nine predeceased outlaws. Together, they remain in the hearts of the family they built and the many lives they touched.

Winfred was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and a founding member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church. He was a member of Achilles Lodge #281 AF&AM, the Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter 59, a Life Member of Khedive Shrine Temple, and Past President of the Tidewater Shrine Club.

We are eternally grateful to Wanda Fletcher who brought warmth, laughter, and gentle care into his daily life and gave peace of mind during a difficult journey. Deep appreciation is given to the Riverside Hospice Care team who cared for him during his final days.
