Willie Lemuel Brooks Jr., 68, of Hayes, passed away May 8, 2018. 

Willie was born July 20, 1949 to Willie Sr. and Lorraine Brooks. He retired after 40 years from Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown. Willie was an active and supportive member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, where he served on the Usher Committee, was assistant head usher for 25 plus years, served on the Administrative Board, the Memorial Committee and was a member of the United Methodist Men. Willie was also a member of the Abingdon Ruritan Club. 

He was passionate about his family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with them, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, as well as trips with his wife and friends. His love, honesty, strength and depth of character will forever remain in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie L. Brooks Sr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Mary Linda Brooks; son, Ryan Brooks (Melissa); daughter, Krista Chase (Shawn); mother, Lorraine Brooks; brothers, Wayne Brooks and David Brooks (Mary Belle); sister, Joan Perris (Mike); grandchildren, Carson, Connor, Cyler and Caragan Brooks, and Keagan, Aubrey and Logan Chase, along with other family members and many friends.

A funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Mike Derflinger and the Rev. Arthur Wolz Jr., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 10 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
