Williamsburg man arrested on charges in connection with Gloucester Point shooting

A 30-year-old Williamsburg man was taken into custody Friday and faces multiple charges stemming from a shooting incident late last month in Gloucester Point, according to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:47 a.m. on March 26, deputies were dispatched to the 7500 block of Riverpark Road in reference to a shooting. Deputies discovered that an altercation had taken place and multiple shots had been allegedly been fired by a lone male suspect. A vehicle and an occupied residential structure had sustained damage from the gunfire. There were no injuries during the incident.

Deputies collected witness statements and ballistic evidence. The GCSO Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to assist with this case.

The male suspect was identified as Brandon Lee Briggs. GCSO investigators were able to locate Briggs and executed a search warrant at the 100 block of Magruder Avenue in James City County with assistance from the James City County Police SWAT Team and Criminal Investigations Unit on Friday. Briggs was taken into custody. Investigators recovered a loaded firearm during the search.

Briggs has been charged with two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, brandishing a firearm, and reckless handling of a firearm.

“The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office would like to express our sincere gratitude to our partners at the James City County Police Department for the critical assistance they provided,” a release stated.

Briggs is currently being held without bond. This remains an active investigation and there will be no further details provided at this time, the GCSO report stated.
