Williams Wharf hosts opening regatta: GHS crew ties for point lead

The Gloucester High School crew tied with Great Bridge for the most points in the opening event of the rowing season at Williams Wharf in Mathews on Saturday. Both teams tallied 27 points in the regatta.

The GHS varsity four "A" boat manned by Logan Hutson, David Collins, Chris Boehm, Kenny Giddings and coxswain Kyle Mielnik finished second behind Mathews in 4:42.3. The "B" boat with Jacob Cheatham, Adam Hedrick, Jeremy Frush and Chris Smith was third in 5:21.1. The GHS varsity A and B boat rowers combined to compete in the varsity eight event and placed second behind Great Bridge with a time of 4:28.3.

On the women’s side, varsity "A" boat rowers Kristen Hickman, Elizabeth Keane, Ken-
dall Worland, Elaina Arsenovic and coxswain Matt Hendrix won their race by 15 seconds with a time of 5:25.3.

Also triumphant were "B" boat rowers Hannah Beverage, Gabby Lauer, Rebeka Turner and Hannah Cagle with a winning time of 5:03.8.
