Williams, Machen win silver at Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints

The Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter training group traveled to T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria on Saturday to compete in the 2014 Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints.

 

Now in its 26th year, and boasting more than 1,800 competitors, the Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints has become the largest qualifying event for Boston’s World Indoor Rowing Championships, known as the CRASH-B’s. On one of the 80 new ergometers arranged neatly in the T.C. Williams main gym, 16 MRA youth competed in their age/weight categories in a 1500 or 2000 meter race.

 

Leading the MRA contingent, Taylor Williams and Phillip Machen took home silver medals. Williams won her medal in the 18-19 year-old lightweight 2000 meter event, while Machen improved his record this year taking silver (6:31.4) in the open weight 18-19 year-old men’s 2000 meter competition.
