WILLIAM WAYNE FOX

William Wayne Fox of Mathews, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, with his family by his side.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Audrey Fox of Yorktown, and survived by his one and only wife of 48 years, Jennifer; his favorite son, Chris (Sara); his number one daughter, Erin; his precious grandchildren, Mia and Callie, and his gem of a brother, David (Pamela).

He dedicated his life to the education of young people both in academics and in the desire to succeed in life. He believed in second chances and worked tirelessly to help kids make good choices.

He began his career teaching math at York Intermediate and Christopher Newport University. He then moved to Gloucester High School in 1977 as an assistant principal and became principal of Gloucester Intermediate School only two years later.  In 1984, he moved to the School Board office as Director of Student Services, where he remained until his retirement in 2004.

One of his greatest accomplishments was during his last few years of work, when he was responsible for writing a federal grant that allowed for expelled students to continue their education and receive their high school diploma. The Regional Alternative School Program still continues to assist students with the opportunity to further their academics and make positive life choices.  He touched the lives of thousands of children and reveled in their success.

He had many passions in life, but his favorites were Little League baseball, fishing in the Chesapeake Bay on his boat the Bella Grace, travel and fun with his family, and of course earning the title of Mr. Christmas for his amazing light displays.

The world has lost a great man and his love and kindness will never be forgotten.

The family received friends Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, from 3-5 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Service and interment was private.

In his memory, contributions may be given to the American Lung Association, 9702 Gayton Road, #110, Richmond, Va. 23238 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Nancy Dransfield, 7274 Joseph Lewis Road, Hayes, Va. 23072.
