William “Shelton” Cherry, 61, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2019 at his home in Gloucester.
Shelton was born on Sept. 2, 1958 in Mt. Olive, North Carolina. He moved to Virginia in the summer of 1969 and graduated from Manchester High School in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sherry Thomas; stepfather, Nelson Thomas and father, William Cherry.
He leaves behind his beloved companion of 17 years, Cheryl Ann Stoops; sister, Jeanie C. Waldrop (Bill) of Chesterfield; brother, Danny Cherry (Gail) of Palm Springs, California; nieces, Angela Rose of California, Sherri Waldrop of Florida, and his nephew, Brett Waldrop of North Carolina.
A celebration of his life will be held at the American Legion Building (Mathews Post 83), 73 Hookemfair Road, Cobbs Creek, Va. 23035, on Sunday, Oct. 20, from the hours of 2-5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
