WILLIAM RAY SASSER

William Ray Sasser, 75, of Gloucester Point, died Nov. 28, 2017 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Bill was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church, and retired from Verizon as Manager after 39 years of service. 

He was an expert on old Western movies and conducted a course on the subject at William & Mary as a part of the school’s Christopher Wren Association for Lifelong Learning. He was also a voracious reader and would read several books a week, along with participating in a book club with several friends in Williamsburg. 

He will be remembered as a truly good friend, mentor, husband and father, generous with his time, his integrity and wisdom.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Sasser; sons, William Andrew Sasser (Jamie) and Jonathan Sasser (Jacqueline), and two grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service conducted by the Rev. Richard Whiteheart, the Rev. Rodney Autry and the Rev. Ray Smith was at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family greeted friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

In memory of Bill, the family desires donations be given to the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 9, Bena, Va. 23018.
