William L. Thompson, also known as Ernest and Bill, 87, of Gloucester, died Sept. 5, 2022. He was a native of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Irma Delaney; son, William L. Thompson III; daughter, Jelinda Thompson Robinson; brother, Donald Thompson; sisters, Sybil Chapman, Rebecca Hampton, Nancy Woods and Brenda McCalop; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jennie Moore Thompson Sr.; brothers, Charles, John and James Thompson, and sisters, Catherine Thompson Purden and Syvilla Thompson.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in The First United Baptist Church, Gloucester. Viewing will be from noon until service time.
