William G. (Gordie) Schaefer II, 53, of Mathews, died Sept. 1, 2017, after a monthlong battle with lung cancer.

Locally, he is survived by his sister, Julia, and brother-in-law Michael Dorsey.

Gordie was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

He will be missed by all who knew him.
