WILLIAM EDGAR MOORE

The wonderful life of William Edgar Moore of Gloucester, Va., changed course Aug. 11, 2015.

It was a life rich with love in his family, his community and his profession. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School, St. Andrews College, and the T.C. Williams School of Law. In his community, he was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder.

Bill was committed to his community, offering his time and talents on numerous boards, the latest of which was the Sanders Foundation. For years he had been a Rotarian where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Of the many passions he had, music was his clear favorite. He was a standing member of the men’s ensemble at his church. As a father, he never missed a sporting event, recital, or other extracurricular activity. He began and ended every family visit with a hug and verbal reminder that he loved us.

He was born Sept. 9, 1944 to John Edgar Moore and Eloise Hogge Moore. He and Martha G. Graves married in 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Graves Moore; children, William Edgar Moore Jr. and his wife Melinda Steider Moore, Martha Graves Moore, Christopher “Kit” Wise Moore and his wife Elizabeth Heesche Moore, and John Michael Richardson and his wife Charlotte Estes Richardson; brother, John Ronald Moore and his wife Jane Polk Moore; grandchildren, Christina Ann Richardson, Felicia Eloise Hall, Abigail Pendleton Moore, and Clara Wise Moore; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, from 6:30-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Nagel.
