WILLIAM ‘BILL’ HARRIS TURNER III

William “Bill” Harris Turner III, age 81, of Hayes, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 12, 2025. Bill was a military brat born in Victoria, Texas, to the late William H. Turner Jr. and Maria Moore Turner, growing up in Hampton, Va., making his home in Gloucester County on Sarah’s Creek. He earned a civil engineering degree and spent the first part of his life as a design engineer. In his late 30s, he decided to begin his business designing homes, and his office was located in the Rappahannock Concrete Building in White Marsh. Since childhood, drawing was a passion, and he dreamed of his own business. Bill designed over 2,000 houses and received six design awards in Virginia before retiring in 2020. He felt blessed to work for himself and loved what he did. Bill had many interests in life, including playing country music on the guitar and bass; traveling the USA; being an avid golfer, car enthusiast (drag strip racing in the ’60s), sailboat racing, photography, tandem bicycling, pulling a 5th wheel camper, and boating since the ’50s. The “Miss Pamela” at the pier of his home was a 40-foot V-stern workboat built in 1947 and converted to a pleasure boat, painted red and white with a blue awning, which he and his wife Pam loved to be on. Granddaughter, Brooke Schaumleffel and wife Pamela Brown Turner preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Jana Danner, Kim Colarik, and Teresa Schaumleffel; five grandchildren, Lindsey Danner, Logan Danner, Jackson Danner, Hunter Schaumleffel, and Tyler Schaumleffel; and a brother, Ronald S. Turner. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6-7 p.m. A graveside service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at noon in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
