William (Bill) Alan Via, “Buckshot,” 82, of Hudgins, passed away peacefully at home with family on Sept. 28, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. Via and Molly E. Justice, and his sister, Beverly Honeycutt.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Barbara Joyce; daughters, Debra Whitaker (Rob) and Barbara Riener (Jimmy Pennington); five grandchildren, Spring Volpe (Frank), Robert (Mary), Seth (Kristen), Zebulon Whitaker, and Aron Riener (April); 12 great-grandchildren; Ruth Callis and a host of family and friends.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at H.C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins.

In his memory, donations may be made to the Mathews Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, Va. 23109 or to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
