William A. Callis Jr., aged 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 23, 1930 to William A. Callis and Nellie J. Callis. William was a member of Mathews Baptist Church, and he retired from the C&O Railroad Marine Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy C. Callis; sister, Barbara Kemp (Donald); children, Stewart Crittenden and Becky Jones, and a grandson, Matthew Crittenden.

William is survived by his wife, Joyce D. Callis; sons, Robert F. Callis (Tracy), Charlie Crittenden (Sandra), and David Crittenden; grandchildren, William R. Callis (Shayna), Geoffrey W. Callis, Daniel Jones (Emily), Aaron Jones (Chelsea), Keely Bailey (Davis), Caroline Crittenden, Morgan Locey (Trevor), and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mathews County Meals On Wheels, c/o Nelda Gibbs, P.O. Box 369, Mathews, Va. 23109.
