WILFORD ‘JUNIE’ FRANKLIN LAWSON

Wilford “Junie” Franklin Lawson, 90, of Mattaponi, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024. He was a lifelong member of New Hope United Methodist Church and worked 30 years at Chesapeake, where coworkers knew him as “Slinger.” Wilford’s free time was often enjoyed outdoors, hunting, fishing and shooting, but his favorite pastimes were spending time with family and reading scripture.

Wilford was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Luchard; brother, Bobby Lawson, and infant daughter. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Carlton Lawson; sons, John Lawson (LeAnne) and Kenneth Lawson (Susan). He is also survived by a brother, Lewis Lawson; sister, Virginia Ann Jackowski; two grandchildren, Benjamin Lawson (Katie) and Ashley French (Ben); five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew and Cameron Lawson, and Parker and Elsie Jane French.

The family received friends from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, Va. 23181, and the funeral service began at 2 o’clock. Interment followed in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, Saluda, Va.
