‘Wild Susans’ watercolor wins RAL exhibit contest

Carol Vaughn’s watercolor “Wild Susans” was named the winner of the favorite piece of art in the RAL Art Center’s “You Be the Judge” exhibit.

Throughout January, visitors to the gallery at 19 N. Main Street in Kilmarnock voted in the exhibit. This annual exhibit is a favorite including all media paintings, photographs, sculpture, mosaic, fused glass and mixed media. Votes were tallied on Jan. 21, with Vaughn’s work crowned the winner.

Vaughn has won numerous awards at the Art Center for her marine subjects, usually a sailing crew while racing. Her paintings capture her love of sailing and the spellbinding beauty of the water, a release stated.

She earned a graphic design degree from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She has worked as a designer and production manager in the Washington, D.C. area, and has now retired to the Northern Neck where she is an exhibiting artist at the RAL Art Center.
