Wiatt completes 3rd book of local history, ‘Alleged Pirate’

Thomas T. Wiatt of Newport News,has just completed his third book of local history, “Alleged Pirate: The Legend of Captain John Sinclair of Smithfield and Gloucester, Virginia.”

It tells the story of a naval hero of the Revolutionary War who was a privateer and blockade runner, and who in 1795 found himself tried for piracy in Williamsburg.

“Alleged Pirate” may be purchased now for $15 plus postage from Lulu Publishers, and soon will be available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and on Kindle.

Wiatt is also the author of the books “Rev. William E. Wiatt” and “Captain Sally.” Captain John Sinclair was his great-great-great-great-grandfather.

A retired engineer from Newport News Shipbuilding and a graduate of Virginia Tech, Wiatt is presently a consultant with Gibbs & Cox and a volunteer at the Mariners’ Museum and Park.
