Whitley’s earns Virginia Green designation

Whitley’s Peanut Factory, based at Hayes, was recently designated part of the environmentally friendly Virginia Green program.

Todd Smith, president of Whitley’s, said the special designation is for his company’s two stores: one located on Route 17 at Gloucester Point and the other in Williamsburg.

Virginia Green attractions are designed to minimize their impacts on the environment, Smith said, and “we want to take a responsible and continuously improving approach to limiting and reducing our impact on the environment.

“We proudly use Virginia peanuts and want to do our part to conserve the lands they grow on,” Smith said.

Whitley’s was recognized for its core activities of recycling, minimizing use of disposable food service products, reducing solid waste, using water efficiently and conserving energy.
