White Marsh substation goes online next week

Dominion Virginia Power is about to put into service a major electrical unit in Gloucester.

Crews are running final tests at a new substation at White Marsh that will serve a 115 kilowatt transmission line and help improve electrical service in Gloucester, Dominion spokesperson Daisy Pridgen said.

Crews began clearing the site over a year ago and construction has been completed, she said, and the new substation will be “energized” on Tuesday.

Work included fencing, foundation work and a control house, Pridgen said.

Dominion purchased a 3-acre site off Route 17 near the Gloucester Business Park for the substation, which she said will be a valuable addition for handling operating load and also to provide for future growth of electrical service in Gloucester. ...
