Mathews Outdoor Club’s annual Wharf to Wharf Swim is scheduled for next Saturday, Aug. 15 at Williams Wharf on the East River, beginning at 10 a.m. This one-mile, open-water swim honors the memory of Mathews native L. Wayne Hudgins and Mimi Ulsaker. The swim will start and end at Williams Wharf Landing, with a turnaround diagonally across the river at the historic Hicks Wharf site. Members of the USCG Milford Haven, USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 66 and local paddlers will provide water safety support. All participants will receive a custom beach towel, breakfast and a specialty cocktail or mocktail upon finishing. Following the swim, awards will be presented to the top three finishers while participants and spectators enjoy music and refreshments under the wharf’s pavilion. The cost to participate is $50.
