Wharf to Wharf Swim raises $6,000+

Thirty-three swimmers completed the 13th annual L. Wayne Hudgins Memorial Wharf to Wharf Swim on Sunday, an event that raised in excess of $6,000 for the Mathews Land Conservancy’s facilities and projects.  Participants ranged in age from 12 to 72 and came from as far away as Washington, D.C.

Starting at Williams Wharf, the swim course was a one-mile out and back across the East River. Swimmers entered the water in two waves: non-assisted and assisted. Coming in first place was Eric Lambert, 13, of Richmond, with a time of 19:49. Second and third places, respectively, went to Spencer Ridge, 12, of Henrico, with a time of 20:12, and Patrick MaGarrity, 42, of King George with a time of 21:46. Christine Johnson of the Virginia Tidewater Trailrunners Association provided timing.  Results can be found at www.webscorer.com/racedetails?raceid=195360.
