Wharf to Wharf fundraiser brings in $3,500+

Although not held due to bad weather, the 2020 L. Wayne Hudgins Wharf to Wharf Swim has raised more than $3,500 to benefit the Mathews Land Conservancy, according to event director Lynda Smith Greve. Funds raised benefit the Williams Wharf project and its facility.

The annual swim had been set for Sept. 20; participants raise money in order to swim from Williams Wharf across East River to Hicks Wharf and back. High winds and tides forced its cancellation this year.

Nancy Miller was the top fundraiser and has received the prize of a massage from Heartfelt Touch Massage; behind her were Tim and Frances Hudgins, winning pizza from Southwind Pizza and ice cream from Short Lane Ice Cream; and Mimi Ulsaker, a $50 certificate to Brent and Becky’s Bulbs. Others received chicken meals from Chick-fil-A of Gloucester.

In addition to these businesses, Greve listed a number of individual sponsors, including James Chamberlain/Karen Dyson, Linda Moorman, Margaret Roller, Jay and Lori Black,...
