Wetlands boards meet next week

Wetlands boards in Gloucester and Mathews counties will hold their first meetings of the new year next week, with public hearings scheduled to be held on a number of applications. The Mathews board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse, while the Gloucester Wetlands Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8 in the colonial courthouse.

The Mathews board will consider five requests. One is from Paul and Pat Wiley, who are asking to keep seven Ready Reef groin structures that are placed in a previously approved Ready Reef sill in East River. In the Mobjack Bay, Robin and Deidre Vest are requesting the installation of riprap revetment along a struggling shoreline and beach nourishment to an already existing breakwater/groin system and replant.  

Brandon Royal has a request to install two timber groins with spurs and approximately 1,000 cubic yards of sand. This request is for shoreline directly on the Chesapeake Bay. The other two requests, fro...
