Wetlands board to reopen Williams Wharf hearing

The Mathews Wetlands Board, in a brief called meeting Friday evening, ratified its previous decision to reopen the public hearing on an application by the Mathews Land Conservancy for construction at its Williams Wharf site. The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the historic courthouse.

The board made the decision during the April meeting, but decided to revisit the issue at the request of the conservancy, which had objected to re-opening the hearing for additional public comment.

In remarks made during the five-minute meeting, board member Katy Walden said the public has a right to comment further, since revisions are being made to the site plan.

The revisions were made by MLC after the wetlands board indicated during the January meeting that it wouldn’t be able to approve parts of the application. The conservancy tabled those parts of the application, which included a proposal for a rowing center and sailing club that would cover 5,361.25 square...
