The Mathews County Wetlands Board will have public hearings on five applications for permits for work that will impact wetlands during a meeting at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, March 7, in the historic courtroom on Court Street.

Susan S. Hakala of Charlottesville, has requested a permit to install approximately 304 linear feet of armor stone revetment and two 20-foot stone groins along the Chesapeake Bay at 83 Hills Creek Drive on Gwynn’s Island. The structure would attach to an existing revetment on the southernmost end. As proposed, the project would also include 94 linear feet of overflow drain pipe to connect an uplands pond to the shoreline.

Also on Gwynn’s Island, Stephen Williams of 143 Henry’s Road, Gwynn, has applied for a permit to install oyster shells approximately four inches deep and four feet channelward of existing vegetation over a 170-foot section of Barn Creek shoreline.
