Wetlands board approves shoreline project

The Gloucester County Wetlands Board approved one shoreline improvement application during a meeting Aug. 13 in the colonial courthouse.

Thomas H. Arnold was given authorization to replace 101 linear feet of failed bulkhead with riprap adjacent to property situated along the southeast branch of Sarah Creek, said Linda Walthall, permit technician in the Gloucester Environmental Programs office.

Member Walter Priest moved for approval of the project since the riprap would be placed landward of the toe of the bulkhead and there would be no wetland vegetation impact. The application was approved by a 5-0 vote, with members Bronco Bayless and Rachel Strawn absent.

Following its regular meeting, the wetlands board sat as the Gloucester County Chesapeake Bay Preservation & Erosion Commission. The commission considered three buffer modification requests, approving two of them and deferring action on the third one until its Sept. 10 meeting.
