Wetlands board approves shoreline improvement project on the Ware River

The Gloucester County Wetlands Board approved one shoreline improvement application following a public hearing Sept. 10 in the colonial courthouse.

George Zahn was authorized to construct 190 linear feet of stone sill at Mean Low Water, 10’ base width and +3 feet MLH height. Linda Walthall, permit technician for the county’s Environmental Programs Department, said that a 15-foot gap midway along the sill was stipulated.

The sill is to be underlain and backed with filter cloth, Walthall said, and Zahn is to backfill 5,400 square feet of intertidal wetlands with clean sand and plant with the appropriate wetland vegetation adjacent to property situated along the Ware River at 5604 Roanes Wharf Road.
