Wetlands board approves four shoreline projects

The Gloucester County Wetlands Board unanimously approved four shoreline improvement applications during its Aug. 12 meeting in the colonial courthouse.

Penny H. Pfeil was granted the go-ahead to construct 180 linear feet of new vinyl bulkhead two feet channelward of the existing timber bulkhead adjacent to property situated along the Ware River at 6599 Hockley Wharf Lane.

Environmental programs administrative coordinator Linda Walthall said the board approved the Pfeil project with stipulation of in-lieu mitigation fee of $15 per square foot for the 30 square feet of impacted wetlands, noting that the bulkhead sheet piling has equal distance above sand to below sand.

The board discussed a Virginia Institute of Marine Science recommendation for a living shoreline at the Pfeil property, Walthall said, but decided there was not enough distance from water to the house for appropriate grading/sloping required.
