Westmoreland Players to present ‘Spitfire Grill’

“The Spitfire Grill,” a musical, will be presented by the Westmoreland Players on weekends from Feb. 20 through March 8 at 16217 Richmond Road, Callao. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (except Saturday, Feb. 28, when the time is 3 p.m.) and at 3 p.m. each Sunday. The show tells the story of Percy Talbott, played by Lauren Kelley, who was recently released from prison for a violent crime. She reports to the local sheriff Joe Sutter (Ethan Parker) in the rural town of Gilead, Wisconsin and, with his help, gets a job at the Spitfire Grill, run by the widow Hannah Ferguson (Laurie Breakwell). Hannah wants to sell the grill, and Percy proposes the unconventional solution of raffling off the diner in an essay contest. The contest draws attention from beyond Gilead, bringing visitors, renewed hope, and long-buried secrets into the open. It is a story about regret, resilience, kindness, and the slow work of healing.
