Mobjack resident Sue McConville is glad to live in a beautiful place like Mathews, and she wants to help keep her corner of the county pristine by sponsoring a road cleanup in conjunction with the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center.
The cleanup will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. this Sunday. Volunteers will meet at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 5372 East River Road, and pick up trash along North River and East River roads. Bags, vests, water and a breakfast treat will be provided.
A stroke survivor, McConville said she had been through a difficult time but had recovered well, and a cleanup is her way of celebrating the fifth anniversary of her ongoing recovery. She said she noticed the need for a cleanup while riding the tricycle her husband bought her so she could easily tootle around the neighborhood and get some exercise in spite of lingering balance issues.
