Watermen’s tours offered on April 24 in Topping

A group of working watermen from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula is offering “hands-on” tours to the public through the newly launched “Virginia Watermen’s Heritage Tour Program.”

The spring kickoff of the program will occur on Friday, April 24, at Merroir, 784 Locklies Creek Road in Topping. Tours for the public will be available on the hour from 1 to 4 p.m. and can be purchased in advance and reserved for $15 per person at www.watermentours.ticketleap.com. They may also be purchase the day of the event for $20 if space is available. Due to anticipated demand, advance ticket purchase is highly recommended, said a press release.

Tour participants will experience what it takes to get Virginia’s seafood from the Chesapeake Bay to the table, said the release. They’ll be able to take part in oyster tonging, oyster dredging, pulling crab pots and other on-the-water demonstrations.
