Waterfowl making navigation easier at Beaverdam

Migratory waterfowl wintering in Beaverdam Park have helped clear out the grass in the reservoir, making it easier for motorboats to maneuver around the lake, according to park ranger Elizabeth Keefer.

The water is clear for about two feet but muddy and cloudy beyond that. The surface water temperature is 58 degrees while the temperature at 15 feet deep is 52.

Keefer said anglers are still reeling in largemouth bass, yellow perch, white perch and the occasional black crappie and catfish. Most fish are being caught in deeper water. Blade baits and jigs have been successful options and one citation crappie was reported recently.

The park is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through December. For more information, call the Ranger Station at 804-693-2107. ...
